Churchill Eisenhart, Reeves Tilley, Robert Huntoon, Jacob Rabinow, Lauriston Taylor, and Walter Hamer talk about the personal side of Edward Condon, the fourth Director of the National Bureau of Standards (NBS), serving from 1945 to 1951. They share many stories that reflect his intellectual curiosity and significant impact on the Bureau. Some of these recollections include: his recruitment of Churchill Eisenhart , Lewis Branscomb and many others; his after-hours work in the labs on the weekends; his opinion that the Bureau should publish a handbook on physics (of which he later wrote 17 chapters); the establishing of the Condon Award; his expansion of the NBS Research Library; and his role in the creation of the NBS Report Series.

Professional experience includes: assistant profesor, associate professor, Princeton University (1928-1929, 1930-1937); associate director, Westinghouse Research Laboratory (1937-1945); director, National Bureau of Standards (1945-1951); director of research and development, consulting physicist, Corning Glass Works (1951-1954); professor, Washington University (1956-1963); professor, fellow of the Joint Institute of Laboratory Astrophysics (JILA), director of UFO Project, professor emeritus, University of Colorado (1963-1974). Research interests: quantum mechanics, development of radar use and nuclear weapons during World War II.
