University of Alberta Nuclear Research Centre records, 1973-1991.
This collection contains progress reports from the Nuclear Research Centre at the University of Alberta.
The Nuclear Research Centre at the University of Alberta was established in 1958 and changed its name to the Centre of Subatomic Research (CSR) in 1992. The CSR investigates the fundamental nature of matter by testing the limits of the applicability of the Standard Model of particles and interactions and searching for new physics beyond the Standard Model. In the late 1960s, the Centre was instrumental in establishing the TRIUMF (Tri-University Meson Facility) Project, an experimental program using the worlds largest cyclotron, in Vancouver. CSR continues to take a lead role as the University of Alberta joint partner in TRIUMF with co-founding institutions University of British Columbia, University of Victoria and Simon Fraser University, along with Carleton University and six associate members. CSR faculty, research staff and technicians participate actively in international collaborations at top experimental research centers around the world, including CERN (Switzerland), DESY (Germany), KEK (Japan), SLAC, Brookhaven and Fermilab (USA), TRIUMF and CSR (Canada). The Centre offers a graduate program and fellowships for research in subatomic physics.
