Merrison, A. W. (Alec Walter), Sir, 1924-
Sir Alec Walter Merrison papers and correspondence, 1931-2001.
There is extensive biographical material, including obituaries and tributes, and articles composed in his lifetime. Documentation of his career, honours and awards includes Merrisons election to the Fellowship of the Royal Society and various honorary degrees and fellowships, chiefly from the 1980s. There are diaries for the year 1969 and much of the 1980s. Other biographical material includes the letters of condolence received by Lady Merrison and newspaper cuttings and photocopies of articles about Merrison. There is University of Bristol material relating to his appointment at and retirement from Bristol and some of the functions he attended, and a complete run of his engagement diaries as Vice-Chancellor covering the period 1971-1984.

University of Liverpool as Leverhulme Fellow and Lecturer (Ph.D. 1957). CERN, Senior Physicist (1957-1960). Chair in Experimental Physics, Liverpool (1960-1969). He was elected FRS in 1969 and knighted in 1976.
