Freedman, Albert, 1916-2004.
Albert Freedman papers and correspondence of Albert Freedman, circa 1929-2004.
There is a little biographical material relating to various aspects of Freedmans professional career. Research documentation is the largest component of the archive and represents reasonably comprehensively Freedmans scientific work. There are notebooks, 1948-ca. 1974 and a series of titled folders, 1949-ca. 1996 containing notes, drafts, calculations etc on a variety of topics, such as acoustic array investigations, array interaction scaling laws, bi-static scattering, dispersion curves and early echo work. There are also computer-generated plots and diagrams related to Freedmans work during the 1980s on acoustic modelling for different parameters, and computer printout during the same period relating to the various programs designed and developed by Freedman in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Salford for theoretical acoustic modelling using different parameters. Publications material mainly comprises a chronological sequence of Freedmans scientific papers, 1948-1996. There are off-prints, working papers and drafts and a little correspondence with publishers. There is also correspondence, notes and drafts relating to unfinished books in the area of acoustic radiation and linear system theory. Material specifically relating to the Admiralty Underwater Weapons Establishment (AUWE) includes a series of formal AUWE reports authored by Freedman with associated working papers and drafts, 1954-1975 and a record of lecture courses attended locally in connexion with his AUWE work. Visits and conferences attended by Freedman are documented, 1956-1983, most of which took place in the UK though there is a record of several events in the USA attended by Freedman during his time as an exchange scientist based in San Diego, California. Finally, there is correspondence and papers documenting research collaborations with colleagues at the Universities of Dundee and Salford.
