In this interview Corngold recalls his student years at Columbia studying under I. I. Rabi, and studying at Harvard with Julian Schwinger, Norman Ramsay, and J. H. van Vleck. Pre- and postdoctoral work at Brookhaven Laboratory. Recounts some early history of nuclear reactors and the field of nuclear engineering, including Caltech's early involvement. Comments on the evolution of his career at Caltech into applied physics and the scientific culture there.
