Warren, Sheilds, 1898-
The Sheilds Warren collection, 1857-1979.
The collection consists of photographs, film reels, audio recordings, awards, memorablila, scrapbooks, textiles, correspondence, legal material, financial material, printed material, office files, manuscripts, and other items. Especially notable are Warren's notebooks; these include his field notes from the tests of the survivors of the nuclear bombing of Japan as well as the Bikini Atoll tests. The collection also includes several items regarding other members of the Warren family.
(1898-1980) Education: M.D., Harvard Medical School (1923). Professional experience: New England Deaconess Hospital, New England Baptist Hospital, US Naval Reserve, Director of the Division of Biology and Medicine of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (1947). Research interests: radioisotopes, treatments of cancer through radiation, the effects of radioactive fallout on humans. Awards: Enrico Fermi Award for scientific and technical achievement in atomic energy.
