National Association of Academies of Science records, 1926-1982.
Includes four series: 1) records of the Academy Conference, 1926-1970, and the AAAS annual meeting, 1971-1982. Consists of minutes of meetings, correspondence, studies, papers given at meetings, and financial reports; 2) records (similar to those in Series 1) of the Junior Academies of Science Conference dating from 1955 to 1969; 3) publications, directories, correspondence, and histories of the regional academies that comprise the AAAS. Material dates from 1931 to 1981 and is arranged alphabetically by region, state, or city academy name; 4) correspondence of several association secretaries from 1951 to 1974, arranged alphabetically by name of correspondent. Miscellaneous material includes histories of the Association.
Began in 1919 affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Academy Conference established in 1926. This conference developed into an organization of 45 affiliated academies. Conference is financed by donations from member academies, sponsors the Junior Academies of Science Conference, and the now-defunct Junior Scientist Assembly. An annual meeting replaced the Conference in 1970.
