De Neufville, Albert, 1896-1981.
Albert De Neufville papers, 1952-1966.
The collection consists of De Neufville's dissertation, various research reports on projects and research done for government agencies and industry as well as papers prepared for professional meetings. Mathematical problems and computer analyses in fluid mechanics, tensor analysis, vectors, versors, and airfoils developed from the early 1950s through the mid-1960s are also included. Class notes, problems, and quizzes for basic and advanced courses in general mechanics, hydrodynamics, and aerodynamics have been retained. Neufville's research specialty was applied mechanics, in particular, fluid mechanics. His mathematical skills are reflected in the numerous pages of computations found in the collection.
De Neufville was a post-World War II immigrant from Germany who came to Lehigh University in 1948 as an instructor of mechanics while studying for his Ph. D. in civil engineering. After receiving his doctorate in 1952 he became assistant professsor of mechanics until his retirement in 1966.
