Ney, Edward Purdy, 1920-
Oral History interview with Edward P. Ney, 1984 February 29.
In this interview Ney discusses his upbringing; his undergraduate education in physics at the University of Minnesota; his postgraduate education and work at the University of Virginia during World War II; his cloud chamber experiments for balloon research with Jean Piccard; balloons versus rockets in research; his involvement with the Orbiting Solar Observatory; and his work in the astronaut training programs for Mercury and Gemini. Ney concludes by discussing his research the area of infrared astronomy; his work with Robert Brown and Richard Twiss; and overall thoughts of the military's balloon program in the 1950s. Research interests: mass spectroscopy, cosmic rays, atmospheric physics, and infrared astronomy.
