The Papers of Sir Joseph Rotblat present a vast quantity of archival material relating to Rotblat and the organization of the Pugwash Conferences, including: correspondence relating to Rotblat's research and career, including notable names such as James Chadwick and Rudolf Peierls; papers relating to various Councils and Committees within the Pugwash Conferences; records of many associations and other affliliations such as the Atomic Scientists' Association, Association of Radiation Research, British Institute of Radiology, Stockholm International Peace Research Institution, United Nations Disarmament Committee (among many others); wartime and post-war research of nuclear physics; and Rotblat's career in medical physics at St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College. The collection also documents Rotblat's various achievements and awards, including the 1995 Nobel Prize for Peace.
Sir Joseph Rotblat (b.1908) is a distinguished nuclear and medical physicist. Originally from Poland, he came to England in 1939 to work at the the University of Liverpool. He participated in atomic bomb research at Liverpool and Los Alamos National Laboratory (USA). In 1950, he chose to change his focus to medical physics and the effects of radiation of living organisms. Other achievements: Winner of Nobel Prize for peace in 1995, for his work towards nuclear disarmament; founder of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs.
