Robert T. Lagemann papers, 1934-1994.
The Papers of Robert Theodore Lagemann consist of published and unpublished manuscripts, including his textbook "Physical Science: Origins and Principles," a history of physics education at Vanderbilt University and in the South, and early physics instumentation. This collection also contains teaching and lecture materials, administrative papers relating tot he phsycs department at Vanderbilt, subject files, research notes, laboratory notebooks, correspondence and business papers. The research notes highlight Lagemann's work on two significant Vanderbilt scientists: Landon Cabell Garland and Edward Emerson Barnard.
Robert Theodore Lagemann (1912-1994) received his B.S. from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1934, his M.S. fron Vanderbilt University in 1935, and his Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1940. He was a professor of physics at both Marshall College and Emory University, then department Chair of Physics and Astronomy and Dean of the Graduate School at Vanderbilt University. Other affliliations include: Southern Society of Physics; Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society (SESAPS); Manhattan Project (Columbia University); Oak Ridge Institute for Nuclear Studies, Board of Directors. His research interests include: particle physics, biophysics and living state physics.
