The Institute for the Lithosphere (ILSAS) was organized in 1979 upon the base of the Labor[atory] for the Sedimental Minerals (LSM). The Labor[atory] arose on July 22nd, 1960 from the Geological Group of the Council for the Productive Forces Studies; in 1961 the Labor[atory] was passed under the supervision of the Geology Ministerium of the USSR; in 1976 it was returned to the Department for Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Its leaders were: L. V. Pustovalov, 1961-1970; A. V. Siderenko, 1970-1982; A. L. Yanshin, after 1982.
