Frank Oppenheimer papers, 1946-1959 (bulk 1946-1949).
Contains papers relating to the tenure of Dr. Frank Oppenheimer, including correspondence by him and his colleagues during his tenure at the University of Minnesota as a professor of physics. Much of this pertains to the investigation of Oppenheimer's Communist ties. Also includes letters of recommendation to the chairman of the Department of Physics from former employers and colleagues upon Oppenheimer's appointment there in 1946.
Physicist; Ph.D. from California Institute of Technology in 1938. Younger brother of J. Robert Oppenheimer, chief of the Los Alamos Atomic Bomb laboratory during World War II. Professor of physics at the University of Minnesota from 1946 to 1949, when he resigned after appearing before the House Un-American activities committee as a Communist.
