Louis Agricola Bauer papers, 1892-1939.
This collection consists of the personal papers of Louis Agricola Bauer and serves to illuminate both his personal and professional lives while he was an employee of the Carnegie Institution of Washington. It includes biographical materials, family photographs, a personal scrapbook, correspondence, notes and ephemera from expeditions, photographs and information of the ships Galilee and Carnegie, clippings, and articles and lectures by others.
Bauer was the first director of the Carnegie Institution's Department of Terrestrial Magnetism, from 1904-1929. His greatest achievement was the organization and direction of extensive programs for the observation of Earth's magnetic field.
