Ferdinand Hercik papers, 1925-1965.
Includes correspondence and documentation of Her k̕'s work with various international organizations. Four cartons contain material from 1955-1965; the fifth holds separate copies of all his works from 1925-1965. The collection, while not complete, provides a well-rounded picture at a very important time in Her k̕'s life, 1955-1956.
Czech biophysicist and radiologist. Completed medical studies 1932; Maryk University: post-doctorate work in the field in General Physiology in the Natural Sciences Department, 1932, and then in the field of Medical Biophysics in the Department of Medicine, 1935. Associate Professor, 1937; Professor in the Faculty of the Department of Medicine, 1946. In 1953, he was named the Director of the Laboratory of Biophysics of Czechoslovakia, which then became the Institute for Biophysics. He work there until his sudden death on January 20, 1966. As an expert on the highest level, he was active in several important internal organizations: United Nations Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, UNESCO, World Health Organization in Genva, among others.
