The Institute for Technical Physics of Czechoslovakia was founded in 1953 out of the Physical Research Institute of the Skoda-Works in Plzen, which had developed in 1934 as a part of the Spectrographical Institute of the Karls University. In 1963 the Institute for Technical Physics became the Institute of Solid Physics.
