Schott, born in 1891 in Jena, is the son of Otto Schott, founder of the Glastechnischen Laboratoriums Schott & Gen. (now Schott Glaswerke). Educated: chemistry and physics at Cambridge, Freiburg, Jena, nd Prague. Published fundamental investigations of the dielectric properties in glass. Co-worked on the further development of electronic tubes and mercury vapour-rectifiers. From 1914, scientific assistant at Jena Glass works Schott & Associates. 1927-1968, managing director; 1945: guided the move of the 41 glass makers from Jena to West Germany. 1952: Decisively leads the reconstruction of the enterprise in Mainz (named Schott Glaswerk from 1981). Society and Association activities. He died in 1989.
