Devik, Olaf Martin, 1886-
Oral history interview with Olaf Martin Devik, 1970.
Devik talks about his work with the Norwegian physicist Kristian Birkeland. They did research on aurora terrella; sunspot periods in aurora observations; electron paths in cathode ray tubes in the early 1900s. Also talks about early attempts to photograph auroras; early observatories and the search for funding for sunspot and aurora observations; the establishment of a weather service in Norway in 1918, the Geophysical Institute in Tromsa, and changes in Birkeland's interests. Interview done for film "Spirits of the Polar Night - the Aurora" in which Devik appeared.
Devik was an assistant to Birkeland throughout his series of aurora terrella experiments.
