Collection consists of prospectuses and price lists; all products undertaken since establishment, under the following: laboratory technology; pharmaceutical packaging tubes; chemistry technology; general industry; television, commericial glass optics technology; optoelectronics; optics (eyes)/transportation technology.
Glastechnischen Laboratoriums Schott & Gen. established, in Jena, in 1884, by Otto Schott, Ernst Abbe, and Carl and Roderich Zeiss; reorganized in 1895 as Schott & Gen.; reorganized again in 1920 as Jenaer Glaswerk Schott & Gen.; expropriation in 1948 of the Jenaer Glaswerk, foundation of a national plant (Volkseigener Betrieb (VEB); in 1952, 41 glass makers who were evaculated from Jena in 1945 establish new works in Mainz. Schott Mainx has since 1981 been named Schott Glaswerke (Glass works); in 1991, Schott Glaswerke takes over 51% of the Jenaer Glaswerk GmbH (earlier the VEB). Schott is the foremost producer of special glass in Europe.
