Mechanical engineer. University of Glasgow: PhD 1938, DSc 1945. Left a career in industry in 1962 to teach mechanical engineering until 1979. Fellow of the Institute of Physics and of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. In 1968 was awarded the UNESCO Prize for Science. Publications include "An Introduction to Thermodynamics" (1971), as well as papers on physics and engineering. Died in 1998.
