Weiss, R. S.
Oral history interview with Rainer Weiss, 2000 May 10.
Session focuses on Rainer Weiss's involvement with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) project, in addition to providing some biographical background. The LIGO discussion includes origins of the project and early history, the "troika" of Weiss, Ronald Drever and Kip Thorne, the scientific concept of LIGO, and subsequent management issues including the elimination of Drever from the project. Other topics include his work with Robert Dicke, gravitational waves, work with Jerrold Zacharias, work on redshift and cosmic microwave background.
