Peirson, Robert, 1821-1891.
Robert Peirson papers, 1854-1890.
Papers include loose manuscript papers and a few notebooks consisting of notes and calculations. The majority of the material relates to astronomy and optics. These papers are the result of his studies after leaving Cambridge. It was Peirson's wish that his manuscripts be published after his death but the College could not meet the cost of printing them.
Peirson was admitted at St. John's in 1841 and graduated in 1845. He was a Fellow of the College 1849-1855. After leaving Cambridge to reside at Barnsbury, where he remained until his death, Peirson determined to devote himself to the study of astronomy and optics and those studies formed the occupation of his life.
