C. T. R. Wilson (1869-1959), physicist. Nobel Prize in physics with Arthur Holly Compton in 1927 for work on the Wilson Cloud Chamber. Studied at Cambridge; appointed James Clerk Maxwell Scholar at the Cavendish Laboratory in 1895, publishing his first work on the cloud chamber in that year. Made Fellow of the Royal Society in 1900; in 1924 awarded honorary LL D from the University of Aberdeen. Remained at Sidney Sussex College for the rest of his working life, where he was appointed reader in Electrical Meteorology in 1918, and Jacksonian Professor of Natural History in 1925.
