Oral history interview with William E. Long, 28 April 2001.
Discusses expeditions to Byrd Station; how data acquired there contributed to earning advanced degrees; made first geological discoveries of the stratigraphy of the Ohio Range (marine Devonian fossils, Permian glacial deposits, Gondwana stratigraphy) which helped prove that the continents of Antarctica, South America, and Africa were once joined (continental drift theory).
Geologist; glaciologist at Byrd Station, 1957-59. Taught at Alaska Methodist University, Anchorage, in the 1970s; recently adjunct professor at Matanuska-Susitna College. Known for mountain climbing skills.
