Sanders, Gary H.
Oral history interview with Gary H. Sanders, 1998 October 16.
In this interview, Gary Sanders discusses: work with Samuel C. C. Ting at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) in Germany; his time at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, followed by Los Alamos National Laboratory and Brookhaven; development of neutrino experiment at Los Alamos; his involvement with the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC); and his work on the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST), now called the Large Area Telescope (LAT). The discussion turns to the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), where topics include the removal of Rochus (Robbie) Vogt as LIGO director, the evolution of the LIGO project and the changes in administration, and general comments on Kip Thorne, Rainer Weiss, Robbie Vogt, and Ronald Drever.
Ph.D., high-energy physics (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1971). Involved in high-energy physics research at European and national accelerator laboratories, including CERN, Brookhaven, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, and finally Los Alamos National Laboratory. Joined the Laser-Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) team at Caltech in 1994.
