Story of upbringing in Berlin Jewish middle-class family; primary and secondary education; university studies at Berlin and Heidelberg; member of Communist party in 1933; Ph.D. in 1934; work in factories; emigration to England in 1936; internment on Isle of Man during World War II; death of husband in 1956; compensation from Germany.
Born in Berlin in 1906. Studied physics and completed a Ph.D. degree shortly after Hitler came to power. Married Gert Liebmann in 1936, shortly before their emigration to England.
