Wooster directed the Institute for Marine Studies from 1979-1982 at the University of Washington. He also served as Professor of Marine Studies and Fisheries in the Institute. His professional memberships included the Board of the National Research Council and the National Advisory Committee on Oceans and Atmosphere. Wooster was a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union and the American Meteorological Society.
