Arnold B. Arons (1916-2001). Physics educator and geophysicist; Ph.D. Harvard University, 1943; Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution during World War II; continued personal research in physical oceanography at Woods Hole during summers. Taught physics to freshmen at Amherst College, 1952-1968. At the University of Washington, 1968-1982, taught physics teachers how to teach physics. Longtime member of the American Geophysical Union, and American Association of Physics Teachers; awarded AAPT's Oersted Medal in 1972, along with numerous other teaching awards over the years.
