Oral history interview with Fred Noel Spiess, 1999.
The collection consists of audio tape and a transcript of interviews conducted with physical oceanographer Fred Spiess by Chris Henke in 1999. Spiess recalls his education at UC Berkeley, his submarine service during the war, his career at the Marine Physical Laboratory at La Jolla after the war, and his long service at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD. Spiess discusses instruments, research priorities, and colleagues.
