Correspondence, by-laws, conference listings, and other papers of committee members relating to the establishment of the award for outstanding research in low temperature physics and the selection of winners.
The award is given every 2-3 years for outstanding research in low temperature physics. It was conceived in 1956, and first presented in 1957. Funds for the award are derived from the Fritz London Endowment Fund, which is held in trust by Duke University. The Committee is made up of four members and a chair; normally, all are low temperature physicists residing in North America and serve for about 6 years. The chair of the Very Low Temperature Commission of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics is an adjunct member. Each committee is designated by number, i.e., 13th Award Committee.
