Bose, Satyendranath, 1894-1974
Satyendranath Bose papers, 1927-1977.
Collection (2214 pages) includes 35 of Bose's notebooks containing, essentially, his calculations; the rather dismal feature of which is that they are undated, and have not been numbered. The calculations have to do with the obtaining of ergenvalues, teaching himself tensor calculus and the properties of various metrics. A large number of these notebooks are dedicated to detailed calculations; operator algebra and wave mechanics. But nowhere is there any mention of what these calculations are of--most likely these are his work sheets.
Bose did some of the early work on Bose-Einstein Statistics and Bose gases. He was professor of physics at Dacca University and is known to have trained a large number of Indian physicists. He was National Professor of Physics (1958-1974), and a Fellow of the Royal Society.
