In this interview, Thomas Tombrello recalls his time as a post-doctorate researcher at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech) with Thomas Lauritsen and his early work at Caltech on gravitational-wave detectors; the formation, administration, and continuing work of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO); his time as tenure committee head; his work with Kip S. Thorne, Ronald W. P. Drever, Rainer Weiss, Rochus (Robbie) Vogt, Kenneth Libbrecht, and Lew Allen; dissent on campus and within LIGO project; and comments on the administration and direction of Caltech during his tenure.
Ph.D, physics (Rice Institute, 1961). Professor of physics and chairman of the Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy, California Institute of Technology. Research in nuclear and ion beam physics, geochemistry and applications of technology.
