London, Fritz, 1900-1954.
Fritz London papers, 1926-1954.
Correspondence, notebooks, drafts, and other papers. Correspondence with almost 350 people including Max Born, Enrico Fermi, Walter Gordy, Walter Heitler, Max von Laue, F.A. Lindemann (Viscount Cherwell), Lothar Nordheim, Wolfgang Pauli, Michael Polanyi, Erwin Schrd̲inger, Hertha Sponer, Leo Szilard, and Edward Teller. Subjects include chemistry and physics, the nazification of the German scientific profession in 1933, and London's emigration from Germany. Of particular interest is the exchange with von Laue between the years 1935-1939 and 1947-1952 which illuminates their sharp differences of opinion concerning the theory of superconductivity. Galleys and drafts of Superfluids, and a book-length manuscript of an unpublished work on the "significance of quantum theory for chemistry."
Major affiliations include: Universitt̃ Berlin, Berlin, Germany, 1928-1933; University of Oxford, England, UK, 1933-1936; and Duke University, Durham, N.C. USA, 1939.
