Livingston, M. Stanley (Milton Stanley)
M. Stanley Livingston relative cost chart, 1940.
A paper prepared by Livingston for the Conference on Applied Nuclear Physics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, October 28 - Nov. 2, 1940 comparing costs and yields for cyclotrons and other types of high voltage apparatus.
Milton Stanley Livingston, 1905-1986. Worked with E. O. Lawrence at Berkeley from 1931-1934 on the development of the cyclotron. He then taught at Dartmouth and Cornell before joining the Dept. of Physics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1938. He was in charge of the design, development, and construction of the Institute's first cyclotron and conducted research on its use as a source of radioactive materials during World War II. In 1956 he was appointed the first director of the Cambridge Electron Accelerator, built under his supervision by MIT and Harvard. He was also chairman of the Accelerator Project at Brookhaven National Laboratory, 1946-1948, and associate director of the National Accelerator at Batavia, Illinois, 1967-1970.
