From Manhattan to Maryland : the American Physical Society and its relocation, 1993.
Examines the American Physical Society's 1990 decision to relocate in College Park, MD at the American Center for Physics. In 1988 its Council expressed opposition to the move proposed by the American Institute of Physics, but reversed its position two years later. Thesis asks why this decision was reversed, how the decision was made, and presents possible consequences of the move.
The author is employed by the American Physical Society, which is a professional society of educators, industrial and government research workers, and students of physics and related fields, established in 1899 to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics. APS is a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics.
