Professor of Natural Philosophy at the Catholic University, Dublin, 1874-1883, having previously been Professor of Moral and Dogmatic Theology at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, 1857-1874. Rector of the Catholic University, 1883-1906. Fellowship in Dept. of Physical Science, Royal University of Ireland, 1882-1887. Vice-Chancellor of Royal University, 1903. Drew large audiences as a lucid exponent of modern science. Publications include: 'Geology and revelation' (1870), 'Outlines of a course of natural philosophy' (1880), and 'Gleanings in science' (1888).
