Society for the History of Technology.
Society for the History of Technology, Technology and Culture records, 1958-1992.
These records are the second series of the larger collection of the records of the Society for the History of Technology. (The first series contains business records.) They are comprised largely of files generated by Melvin Kransberg as editor-in-chief of "Technology and Culture" from 1959-1981. They are arranged in subseries according to the editorial or other function involved in producing the publication. In addition to the conceptual period and first printing in 1958-1962, the subseries also include book reviews, editorial review of articles, indexes and tables of contents, printing by the University of Chicago Press, costs, promotions, and special projects.
The Society for the History of Technology was formed in 1958 to encourage the study of the development of technology and its relations with society and culture. The Society is interdisciplinary, concerned not only with the history of technological devices and processes, but also with the relations of technology to politics, economics, labor, business, the environment, public policy, science, and the arts. "Technology and Culture" is the official publication of the Society.
