Topics include: 1) Incoming and outgoing correspondence (normal and secret)(22 boxes). 2) Organization of scientific research in relation with national df̌ense (incl. paper by Maurice de Broglie). Papers concerning the creation and meetings of Comit ̌d'action scientifique de la defense nationale (1948-1961), Scientific and technological information, cryptography, Direction gňřale des recherches et moyens d'essais (1962-1964), information concerning atomic, biological and chemical warfare, centre d'expřimentation semi-permanent de Beni-Ouif (1951-1954), Centre d'expřiences ařiennes militaires de Mont-deMarsan (1952-1959). (15 boxes). 3) Scientific research in the domains of telecommunication. Collaboration with the Centre National d'ťudes et de tľčommunications, including studies of propagation of waves in the high atmosphere, in solid-state physics, and space science (1945-1964), Service de prv̌ision ionosphřique militaire (1949-1959), Service technique des tľčommunications de l'air, research on ballistic missiles (1954-1958) (3 boxes). 4) Relationship with the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (1945-1962) (1 box). 5) Scientific Research in the Air Force, including organization and correspondence of the Bureau Scientifique. Deals notably with nuclear and spatial questions, operational research, computer science, metallurgy, mathematics, artificial rain, the Ecole d'ť ̌de physique thǒrique des Houches, the cole polytechnique, laser, radar, biological warfare, UFOs, cosmic rays, Commissariat ̉l' nergie atomique, Centre National d' tudes spatiales, high-atmosphere research, rocketry, meteorology, etc. (28 boxes). 6) Aeronautical research and studies: Mainly technical studies on specific airplanes, jet propulsion reactors, supersonic airplanes, and missiles (1946-1981)(60 boxes). 7) Miscellaneous (3 boxes).
Beureau scientifique de l'Armě de l'Air, created in 1945 in order to conduct long-term scientific research in relation with other similar organization of the Army, to insure communication with scientific and technological research agencies, exploit operational and technical information and suggest future direction of research. The Bureau scientifique changed its name to Bureau prospective AIR in 1964, and to Bureau de prospective et d'ťudes in 1967.
