Files are concerned with the establishment and construction of the new Royal Observatory buildings at Blackford Hill, Edinburgh, and later provision of finance for equipment, staffing, and general maintenance of astronomical services. In April 1964 responsibility for maintaining the Observatory passed to the Science Research Council.
