Small collection of miscellaneous papers, including souvenirs and signatures collected at scientific meetings and dinners; typescripts of several lectures and radio broadcasts; some papers relating to the British Association during his period as General Secretary, including correspondence with O. J. R. Howarth; and 4 vols. of newspaper cuttings, etc. re. meetings of the British Association; 7 vols. of cuttings, offprints, and corrected proofs of Ferguson's more ephemeral printed writings (reviews, obituaries, newspaper articles, etc.); photographs and a cine-film relating to surface tension experiments; etc.
Physicist; latterly Assistant Professor of Physics at Queen Mary College, London, until his retirement in 1945. Editor of The Philosophical Magazine; Secretary (1928-1938) and President (1938-1941) of the Physical Society; General Secretary (1936-1946) of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. Ferguson's special field was the physics of surface tension of liquids.
