Consists of Health Physics Society presidential correspondence files (1958-1971), spanning the tenures of eleven presidents: Lauriston Taylor, Elda E. Anerson, John S. Laughlin, John R. Horan, Walter S. Snyder, J. Newell Stannard, Claire E. Palmiter, Dade W. Moeller, Niel Wald, James C. Hart, and Robley D. Evans. Files of Russell F. Cowing as Executive Secretary, 1971, and his tenure as business manager of the HEALTH PHYSICS JOURNAL, 1961-1970. Included are materials documenting the early years of the Society, collected in a "Proto-History." Minutes and reports of the executive board and committees also shed light on the Society's early period. HEALTH PHYSICS JOURNAL materials are included in the records of the individual presidents (1956-1978). Committee Records for publications, the Society constitution, local chapters, and membership (1956-1976) are filed separately.
The Health Physics Society is a professional society founded in 1956 for people engaged in some form of activity in the field of health physics (radiation protection). It seeks to improve public understanding of the problems and needs in radiation protection and to promote health physics as a profession.
