University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Graduate College Campus Research Board records, 1929-2005.
University Campus Research Board File includes approved and denied requests by faculty members for financial support for research, particularly requests for funding of graduate assistants, equipment purchases or rental, travel. The series includes research proposals and abstracts, letters of support form department heads and outside scholars, vitae and bibliographies, research budgets, progress reports, requests for additional funds stores vouchers and financial documents, and correspondence with University Research Board secretaries Arthur H. Daniels (ca. 1932), Robert D. Carmichael (1934-47), Louis N. Ridenour (1947-52), Frederick Wall (1953-62), Harold R. Snyder (1963-75) and Campus Research Board Secretaries, Linda Wilson (1975- ) and Harvey Stapleton.
The Campus Research Board consists of eight members appointed by the Chancellor. The principal functions of the Board include: 1) assigning the research funds of the Graduate College to research projects; 2) reviewing faculty applications to the outside agencies for financial aid; 3) advising the Chancellor on potential patentable inventions by faculty members. There are two exceptions: administrative coordination of research in the College of Agriculture is handled by the Agricultural Experiment Station, and in the College of Engineering by the Engineering Experiment Station.
