Harald A. Enge papers, 1950-1984.
The collection includes materials about conferences on atomic energy attended by Enge between 1957 and 1969; correspondence with other physicists regarding nominations for the Nobel Prize in physics (1966), accelerators, and other scientific matters, 1950-1982; physics course notes for classes taught by Enge at MIT between 1955 and 1967; laboratory data from nuclear physics projects, 1951-1967; and speeches and articles he wrote about nuclear physics and particle accelerators, 1963-1984.
Harald Anton Enge, 1920- , E.E. 1947, Technical University of Norway; Dr. Philos. (Ph.D.) in physics, 1954, University of Bergen, was an assistant at the Technical University of Norway, 1946-1947, then research associate and lecturer at the University of Bergen, 1948-1955. He was on leave at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1950-1952, and returned to MIT in 1955 as an instructor in the Department of Physics. He was assistant professor of physics, 1956-1959, associate professor, 1959-1963, and professor, 1963-1986. He co-founded Deltaray Corporation (1969) and Gammaray Corp. (1981), and was a consultant to the High Voltage Engineering Corporation, 1955-1969. He received twenty United States patents in the area of ion optics and high voltage power supplies. The focus of his research was on nuclear spectroscopy and ion optics.
