Joseph H. Keenan, 1900-1977, B.S. in naval architecture and marine engineering, 1922, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, came to MIT in 1934 as associate professor of mechanical engineering; became professor in 1939; and was head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 1958-1961. Among his major works are the textbooks, Thermodynamics (1941), and Principles of General Thermodynamics(1965). He conducted research in the field of thermodynamics, particularly the thermodynamic properties of steam.
