Pei; photographs of early equipment; and data from the GARP (Global Atmospheric Research Program) Atlantic Tropical Experiment, conducted in 1974.
The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) was created in 1960 to provide a facility for the collection and analysis of data from the atmosphere. The center was established by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR - 14 universities with departments of meteorology) with initial funding from the National Science Foundation.
