Metallurgist. Hargreaves, following a period in Cambridge, England, worked in the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (later the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization [CSIRO]) Division of Tribophysics 1949-1964. In 1964 he was appointed to the chair of physical metallurgy at the University of Melbourne, Australia, a position he held until his death.
