MIT Office of the Chancellor records of Julius A. Stratton, 1949-1957.
The collection documents Stratton's responsibilities in each of the positions he held between 1949 and 1957 for academic development and research in reports and memoranda from the schools, departments, and research laboratories, including Lincoln Laboratory and the Research Laboratory for Electronics, and in material on Projects Charles, Hartwell, Meteor, Troy, and Whirlwind. There are extensive notes on reports from MIT committees, including the Patent Committee and the Ad Hoc Committee on ROTC.
Julius A. Stratton, professor of physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was appointed provost of the Institute in 1949. In 1951 he became vice president and provost, and ex-officio member of the MIT Corporation. In 1956 he was named chancellor, and in 1959 he became eleventh president of MIT.
