Yash Pal, born in 1926, obtained his Ph. D. from the Masachusetts Institute of Technology. His area of research includes cosmic rays and high energy physics--elucidation of properties of K-mesons and hyperons; and worked on the development of the Leaky-box model of cosmic-ray propagation in the galaxy: was Director of the Space Application Centre, Ahmedabad; and Secretary General of Unispace '82.
