The records: printed memoranda, brochures, etc. on the foundation of the college, from 1876; printed programs (or calendars) 1884-1931; printed annual reports of the Dean of the Central Institution 1888-1910, continued as Reports of the Delegacy until 1968; also related correspondence; minutes of the Board of Studies, 1885-1913, continued as the existing Engineering Board and interleaved with printed and duplicated correspondence, examination results etc.; entry forms to courses, 1885-1913; applications; registers of students, 1884-1948; student files, 1907-1964; and students' lecture notebooks.
City and Guilds College opened as Central Institution in 1885 by the City and Guilds Institute for the Advancement of Technical Education; in 1893 the name changed to Central Technical College; in 1900 became a school of the Faculty of Engineering, University of London; affiliated with Imperial College in 1907 becoming City and Guilds College.
