The records consist of the minutes and agendas of the Council of the college and its subcommittees; history of donors and their subscriptions; registers of students, 1845-1876; and miscellaneous material, including the foundation stone of the laboratory in Oxford Street laid by Prince Albert in 1846.
The college was established by private subscription in 1845, and was merged into the Royal School of Mines, London, in 1853. It is the first constituent college of Imperial College, London.
